Is the train or a private transfer better from Marrakech to Fes?

The train takes 6.5 to 7 hours and usually routes via Casablanca, so you change with your luggage. A transfer takes about 6 hours, runs direct, and lets you stop along the way. For families, groups, and anyone who would rather see the Middle Atlas than a platform, the transfer is the stronger option.

Is there a high-speed train to Fes?

Accepted Answer

No. Al Boraq, Morocco's high-speed service, runs between Tangier and Casablanca only. Marrakech to Fes is served by conventional Al Atlas trains, and the high-speed extension south and east is planned rather than running.

Can we stop somewhere on the way?

Yes, and it is the main advantage over the train. Beni Mellal makes a natural lunch stop, and the Middle Atlas cedar forest near Azrou is worth an hour if you have it, with Barbary macaques by the roadside. Ask at booking so we allow the time.

The Fes medina is car free, so the drive ends at the nearest gate to your riad, commonly Bab Boujloud or Bab Rcif. Give us your riad name at booking and the driver will choose the right gate and walk you to the door rather than leaving you at the first entrance.

Per vehicle. The fare is the same for one passenger or a full car, so a family or group travels for the price of the vehicle instead of buying a seat each.

Mostly motorway and good main road. The section through the Middle Atlas is winding in places, so anyone prone to travel sickness should sit in front and mention it to the driver.

Can we do this as a one way?

Yes. One way is the normal booking here because most people continue from Fes to Chefchaouen or fly out. There is no return requirement and no penalty for travelling one way.
